Glen Elementary School

Main entry

The new Glen School was built as replacement to an old school facility which needed to remain operational during the construction period, despite considerable site restrictions. The replacement building, sited at the location of the former sports field, was conceived as a two story structure to address site restrictions and to respond to its urban context. The new Glen School is also the first SD43 facility designed along the principles of 21st century learning.

Connected classrooms

The building was conceived with intensive involvement of a Steering Committee, committed to imbue the building with principles of 21st century learning such as flexibility, adaptability, openness and transparency. The project is build to high sustainability standard equivalent to LEED silver and features an efficient radiant slab heating with natural ventilation through trickle vents, natural materials and daylighting, leading to performances exceeding the MNECB by 45%.

The building was tendered in April 2009 and completed in December 2010, 30% below budget.
